Below is a summary of the accessibility information for our two luxury yurts.  We also have, in addition (but less accessible) farmhouse accommodation at The Nook, a spacious one-bedroom getaway.  The Nook is also ideal as an additional space for large groups. Details below.

Accessibility overview of our glamping options

Both yurts can be accessed step free (with inclusion of a small ramp to enter the main door).

Sky House has more room to manoeuvre inside and a roll in shower on the deck.  It is decorated with vibrant quirky touches.  Pumla is lower down the slope but the shower is not big enough for wheelchair access.  It has a large outdoor bath.  In design it is more neutral.

The Nook is less accessible than both yurts.  It’s a multi level unit with a large open planning living area.  Our focus has been to facilitate access to the yurts as we feel it is a more unique opportunity with other holiday cottages better set up for access.  However, it is definitely worth considering if you have limited mobility and/or want to take the site as a whole as it acts as our host space.

Images of all elements of the yurts are available on our website under the tab sleep, should you want to see the bath’s for example or shower rooms.  Comprehensive info on all units to be found below.

General Accessibility Information for Kaya Yurts

Kaya is a new and evolving project. We appreciate your feedback and ideas to help us improve accessibility.

  • We are unable to provide any support once you are onsite as we are not always here and have small children in the house who cannot be left.  For this reason, we do not recommend you come alone unless you are very confident that the efforts we have taken are adequate to enable your access and self evacuation in the event of an emergency (such as fire or storm).

  • In the event of an emergency for example a fire or storm, our evacuation policy is to bring you into our home (should it become unsafe during the night and we are onsite).  Please note that our farmhouse is our home and is not wheelchair accessible.  We will endeavour to the best of our ability to accommodate and care for you in an emergency situation.  â€‹

  • Neurodiverse guests and general sensory information:  The Yurts can be very noisy in adverse weather conditions and there is nowhere to go to get away from the noise.  There are no blackout blinds, plus a large circular clear window in the middle of the yurt roof.  We recommend you bring ear plugs and eye masks if you feel this may be challenging.

Regarding booking and policies, should anything be unclear or you need support with this process please get in         touch either by phone or email.

  • Hard of Hearing and D/d/deaf and Hearing Impaired:   We can communicate via text/WhatsApp or email.

  • Visual Impairment VI:   We are able to print information in large print and send to you in a Microsoft Word document.

We have a large print copy of our welcome and safety information. Please request this when booking so that we         can make sure it is in your unit.

We have routed 2 lines into the wood at the end of each section of railing and banister as a signal that that                 section is ending.

There are white lines on the edges/start of any steps.

      Parking and Check-In

  • Accessible Parking: There is a concreted parking space near the main farmhouse and a few minutes from the yurts.

  • Check-In: We operate a self check-in process with detailed information being emailed out prior to arrival.  If you need our assistance once on site (more wood, matches..) this is done via phone call or text message.

  • Additional equipment is available on request: shower stools, raised toilet seats with arms, anti slip mats and a bath board.  Please request these at the time of booking.  Please note that use of these aids is at your discretion and we cannot accept liability for any injury incurred during their use.

Please note we cannot be responsible for any heavy equipment that is           delivered for your stay and this includes moving it or installing it.  Our           insurance does not cover us.

Please let us know if you have items being delivered.

  • Luggage trolleys are parked in the car park for guest use.

  • Quiet Spaces: There are numerous quiet areas both inside and outside, ideal for relaxation.  Please note that this is obviously weather dependent as it can get noisy in the yurts in this rural location.  The Nook is a brick and mortar building and so less impacted by varying sound levels from the weather.

The Nitty Gritty

Pathways and Yurt Access

Access to Yurts: The path to the yurts includes a short section of earth, stone, and grass with a varying incline of 1:9 - 1:13. (There are plans to remedy this area and bring the parking closer in 2026).  Pumla is 100 meters and Sky House is 140m.

This leads to a well-drained stone and strong honeycomb style webbing accessible path with a predominantly 1 in 12 gradient.  There is a short section that is 1 in 13.

Both yurts are accessed via short wooden ramp and  have double doors (74.5cm and 73 cm wide) opening in, with a step and lip (from deck 16.5cm and from inside 6cm). Additional ramp available on request.

  • Lighting: Kaya is in a designated dark skies area, so while the yurts are equipped with electric lighting and torches, it can be very dark at night.  As a result we do not have permission to light paths so we have motion sensored lights illuminating directional signs only.

  • Noise: Please note that it can be noisy during wet or windy conditions.
